Red Hat announced the launch of the Long-Life Add-on, an optional annual maintenance service that extends RHEL support indefinitely without predefined end dates. This allows enterprises to avoid forced infrastructure upgrades aligned with vendor schedules, enabling them to manage system lifecycles according to their own technological, regulatory, and business timelines. The service targets organizations requiring prolonged infrastructure stability, such as global financial institutions, telecommunications companies, healthcare providers, and government agencies, where system upgrades or architecture changes pose significant risks. The Long-Life Add-on is offered to customers subscribed to the Extended Life Cycle Premium program, providing extended maintenance after existing support periods expire. It ensures long-term stability and security for specific RHEL major and minor versions, including critical vulnerability patches, major bug fixes, and 24/7 technical support. Enterprises can maintain older OS versions while receiving essential security updates and technical support. Red Hat anticipates this service will reduce the burden of forced upgrades, offering flexibility in aligning hardware investment schedules with software operational plans, particularly for long-lifecycle industrial equipment and regulated systems.
