Vietnam and IPIP Expand Data Privacy Exchange; Nguyen Hong Quan Chairman Invited

The Korea Institute for Personal Information Protection (IPIP), led by Chancellor Kim Ki-bae, hosted a five-day official visit by Nguyen Hong Quan, chairman of Vietnam's Personal Information Protection Committee, from June 6 to 10. This initiative aims to share South Korea's 15-year expertise in data protection frameworks, technical safeguards, and independent oversight mechanisms since the 2011 Personal Information Protection Act. IPIP anticipates this collaboration will accelerate Vietnam's development of subordinate legislation and strengthen its supervisory authority. During the visit, Nguyen engaged with KAPP experts and legislators to discuss bilateral cooperation, while also meeting with South Korean officials to align on regulatory frameworks and compliance strategies for Vietnamese businesses. IPIP's Kim Ki-bae emphasized ongoing policy and technical exchanges, including a planned joint seminar in Vietnam, to support global privacy governance.
