Samsung and LG TVs Expand Global 'FAST' Footprint
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are leveraging the growth of ad-supported free streaming service FAST to expand their smart TV channel offerings and service regions while promoting content diversification. FAST provides free content in exchange for viewing ads on smart TVs. With existing channels like Samsung TV Plus and LG Channel already integrated into Samsung and LG smart TVs, users can access content without additional costs. Global smart TV adoption rates reach 45%, with 800 million households currently equipped and projected to hit 10 billion by year-end. Market research firm Omida predicts the global FAST market will grow from $6.3 billion in 2023 to $12 billion in 2027. Samsung expanded its FAST channels from 3,300 to 4,300, while LG increased its count from 4,000 to 4,500. Service regions also expanded, with Samsung adding three countries and LG entering Poland, now operating in 37 countries including 17 in Europe. Samsung also plans new musicals monthly on its STN channel, including the Tony Award-winning 'Maybe Happy Ending' and other major titles.
