Ministry of Science and ICT Supports Commercialization of High-Risk, High-Reward R&D Projects... 8 Research Initiatives Underway

The government is strengthening collaboration with private and public institutions to accelerate technology transfer and commercialization of high-risk, high-reward research and development (R&D). The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Research Foundation held an event in Seoul to discuss strategies for expanding the impact of limit-pushing R&D outcomes. This initiative involves specialized program managers planning high-impact R&D topics, closely managing development processes, and driving transformative technology. Currently, eight research projects are underway in fields such as bio, materials, and climate energy, including memory storage technologies, mental health platforms, and extreme climate prediction systems. Participants from Samsung Electronics, the Korea Institute for Science and Technology Advancement, and researchers shared strategies for supporting follow-up R&D, technology transfer, and startup initiatives. The ministry plans to enhance inter-agency collaboration and review specific linkage strategies to support subsequent R&D and technology commercialization.
