Saudi Prince Discloses 5% Stake in Lucid... Reasons Behind 25% Stock Surge
Lucid Group's stock surged as much as 25% in mid-trading after the disclosure that Alwaleed bin Talal, the Saudi prince, held a 5% stake. According to Electrek, the market interpreted the disclosure as a sign of Saudi confidence in the cash-strapped electric vehicle (EV) company. Alwaleed bin Talal disclosed ownership of 19.51 million Class A shares, representing exactly 5.00% of the outstanding shares as of July 23. While the filing was purely informational and not indicative of operational control, the market focused on the significance of a major Saudi investor acquiring meaningful stakes. Notably, the stake was separate from Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) holdings, with Alwaleed operating independently within the Kingdom Holdings group. This follows PIF's substantial investments since 2018 and Uber's 11.5% stake acquired earlier this year.
