NVIDIA Unveils Robot-Specific Safety System 'Halos'... 'Safe Collaboration Between Humans and Robots'

NVIDIA has launched an integrated safety platform called 'Halos for Robotics' to enable humanoid robots to work safely alongside humans. The system unifies AI computation, sensors, operational software, safety applications, and certification frameworks into a standardized architecture. Unlike current industrial robots that stop or slow down upon detecting collision risks, NVIDIA emphasizes the need for robots to understand their environment and make real-time decisions. Halos combines NVIDIA's IGX Thor platform, Holoscan Sensor Bridge, and the Outside-In Safety Blueprint to enhance robotic perception. The system leverages over 18,600 years of engineering experience from autonomous vehicle safety development, enabling advanced situational awareness like predicting collisions and adjusting speeds in warehouses. Agility Robotics, a humanoid robot company, became the first partner to integrate Halos into its Digit robots used in logistics and manufacturing.
