Apple Skips High-Performance M6 Chips, Moves to AI-Focused M7 Chip Strategy Early
Apple is significantly revising its Mac chip strategy, deploying the M6 chip in entry-level models this year while skipping high-performance M6 Pro, Max, and Ultra variants to directly transition to the AI-centric M7 architecture. The M6, codenamed 'Komodo (H18G)', is being tested in the upcoming MacBook Pro (J804) and features enhanced memory bandwidth and AI processing capabilities, with memory bandwidth increasing from 153GB/s to 200GB/s. The M7 series, codenamed 'Delos (H19G)', will debut as early as mid-2025 with even higher memory bandwidth, while high-performance M7 Pro, Max, and Ultra variants under the 'Andros' project will launch in late 2027 and 2028 respectively.
