U.S. Commerce Department Allows Partial Access to Anthropic's Mistral 5... Pythia 5 Remains Restricted

Axios reported on 27th that the U.S. Commerce Department eased restrictions on Anthropic's Mistral 5 model. Citing a letter from Commerce Secretary Howard Lützner to Anthropic, the report noted that the department assessed the collaboration progress with the government as "substantial progress" and determined safety measures were sufficient to mitigate risks of model bypass and leakage. As a result, the letter specifies that designated agencies and their foreign employees, as well as Anthropic's foreign staff, may now export, re-export, or transfer Mistral 5 internally.
