South Korean Display Equipment Companies Supplying CSOT with Large Amounts of 8.6-Generation OLED Equipment

South Korean display equipment companies are reaping significant benefits from Chinese panel maker CSOT's investment in 8.6-generation OLED equipment. While new equipment investments in China position it as an opportunity hub, concerns about rising dependence on China are also emerging. According to China Bid News, CSOT recently selected South Korean firms like SFA, Hys, Device, and HB Solution as suppliers for 8.6-generation equipment. These companies will provide measurement and inspection tools, including laminators, mask tensioners, mask cleaning systems, and spectral ellipsometry devices. Other domestic firms like Yas, Abaco, and Viatron have also secured projects for deposition systems and thermal treatment equipment. LG Electronics' Production Technology Research Institute (PRI) is supplying inkjet vacuum logistics equipment. CSOT, leveraging inkjet printing (IJP) technology in Guangzhou, has built an 8.6-generation OLED production facility capable of manufacturing 22,500 glass panels monthly. IJP, which deposits organic materials via nozzles rather than vacuum heating, marks a departure from traditional OLED methods. CSOT plans to mass-produce medical IT OLED panels at its Wuhan T5 facility by late 2024 using IJP technology acquired from Japanese JOLED. The 8.6-generation equipment investment reflects sustained activity in the equipment procurement sector, revitalizing South Korean firms that have seen renewed success in securing large-scale projects.
