Scotland's Renewable Energy Generation Hits Record High... Solar Power Reaches 0.9 GW
Scotland's cumulative solar capacity reached 0.9 gigawatts (GW) by the end of Q1 2026, with total renewable energy capacity expanding to 18.1 GW. Renewable energy output hit a single-quarter record, driven by diversification of power sources through solar and storage technologies. Onshore wind accounted for 10.7 GW, offshore wind 4.3 GW, while solar and storage systems are growing to enhance grid flexibility. Renewable energy production reached 13.4 terawatt-hours (TWh) in Q1 2026, a 22% increase from Q1 2025. Scotland's solar pipeline projects exceed current operational capacity at 3.4 GW, with 0.9 GW already online. Power storage projects grew rapidly, with 24 operational projects totaling 1,583 megawatts (MW) and 426 projects in development pipelines.
