SambaNova, Inference Chip Startup, Sees 5-Fold Valuation Surge in 5 Months, Secures $16 Billion Investment

AI chip startup SambaNova Systems has secured $1.1 billion (approx. 16 trillion won) in new funding, valuing the company at $11 billion, following its rejection of Intel's acquisition offer last year. The investment round, led by General Atlantic, includes participation from BlackRock, Intel Capital, SoftBank Group, and Qatar Investment Authority. SambaNova has also secured JP Morgan Chase as a new client to deploy its SN40L and next-gen SN50 systems for on-premise AI inference infrastructure. CEO Rodrigo Maganto highlighted the significance of global banks like JP Morgan adopting SambaNova's technology, signaling a shift toward in-house AI infrastructure. The company's hybrid strategy leverages NVIDIA GPUs for training while using its specialized inference chips for response generation, achieving up to 10x faster decoding performance than NVIDIA GPUs. SambaNova's premium inference capabilities, enabling large-scale models to run on a single rack, position it as a key competitor in the AI chip market.
