Cho Tai-won, SK Chairman: 'Semiconductors Move Beyond Historical Supply-Cycle Patterns, Focusing on Supply Expansion'
SK Group Chairman Cho Tai-won analyzed that the semiconductor industry is moving beyond the historical cycle of periodic supply shortages and overcapacity, driven by AI-driven structural shifts. He emphasized expanding production capacity globally, including in the U.S., to address surging AI memory demand. Cho noted demand is outpacing supply due to physical constraints on fab construction and highlighted AI's role in increasing memory requirements through technologies like KV Cache. He warned of long-term supply shortages' impacts, stressing the need for accelerated chip production to prevent market contraction. SK Hyunics' ADR listing event in the U.S. coincided with his remarks at a press conference in New York.
