Online Appliance Sales Surpass Annual Record Ahead of Summer

Online appliance sales have surged sharply before the summer peak season, with projections indicating this year's total sales could exceed previous records. The rapid growth in online transactions has shifted the focus of appliance industry sales strategies toward digital channels. According to Statistics Korea, May's online appliance transaction value reached approximately 15.64 trillion won, surpassing the 15 trillion won threshold for the first time since 2020. This marks the fourth-highest monthly figure in history, with the top three records concentrated in summer (June-July) and winter peak periods (November). Analysts attribute the spike to early demand for seasonal appliances like TVs, air conditioners, and fans driven by the World Cup and unseasonably warm weather. If this trend continues, annual online appliance sales could reach 16.5 trillion won, surpassing the 2024 record of 16.38 trillion won. Samsung's June promotional events and LG's concurrent sales campaigns are expected to further boost monthly transaction volumes.
