Hyperlocal Community Purchasing Tools Surge in Offline Distribution, Adding Hundreds of Stores in a Year
A model shifting online group buying to offline local-based 'hyperlocal community purchases' is rapidly expanding. Large apartment complexes are becoming focal points for new offline retail outlets establishing themselves as a new distribution channel. These stores operate through pre-orders placed via KakaoTalk open chats, with headquarters only ordering needed quantities and consumers picking up items at designated neighborhood locations. This reduces inventory costs and minimizes distribution margins through direct manufacturer deals and collective purchasing. Analysts attribute the growth to rising demand for essential goods amid prolonged high living costs, coupled with active local communities in large apartment areas. Companies like Dycloda, OurNeighborhoodUnity, and Sodomall are expanding rapidly, with Dycloda surpassing 200 stores in a year after its June 2023 launch. OurNeighborhoodUnity now operates 163 stores, while Sodomall has 274 locations. New entrants like Sellectica's Manmanmarket are also growing rapidly, indicating the sector's potential to evolve beyond simple group buying into curated local distribution platforms with expanded product categories and community service integration.
