Netflix's Generative AI-Driven Works Approach 300 Titles... Most in Post-Production
Netflix disclosed that approximately 300 titles on its platform utilize generative AI tools, according to a report by The Verge. The streaming giant highlighted in its second-quarter earnings report that AI-driven workflows enable higher-quality outputs at faster speeds and lower costs. Most AI applications focus on post-production tasks, with examples including 'Glory,' 'Brasil 70: A Saga do Tri,' and 'The American Experiment,' where AI enhanced complex scenes, crowd sequences, historical battle sequences, and world-building intros. Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix, previously mentioned using AI in the sci-fi series 'The Eternaut,' noting its efficiency. Netflix is expanding AI investments, acquiring a startup by Ben Apple, launching an AI animation studio, and incorporating AI-generated voices in its new reality show 'Wonka's The Golden Ticket.' Recent quarterly revenue reached $12.56 billion, with Netflix maintaining its goal to double ad revenue to $3 billion. The company addressed shareholder concerns about viewer engagement, acknowledging challenges retaining audiences for some season-two series. To compete with free-streaming services like YouTube, Netflix is broadening content formats, introducing video podcasts and short-form videos, and planning to stream content from digital media brands like BuzzFeed. The company is also considering implementing a live-streaming channel.
