KIMM Advances Laser Cutting Technology for Nuclear Reactor Decommissioning with Fraunhofer

The Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials (KIMM) is collaborating with the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) to enhance laser cutting technology for nuclear reactor decommissioning. This partnership involves developing AI-based laser equipment and intelligent manufacturing technologies, expanding global research collaboration. The joint effort will focus on advancing laser cutting techniques for both pressurized and boiling water reactors, alongside research in high-power laser applications, AI-driven smart manufacturing, real-time process monitoring, and eco-friendly energy technologies. Both institutions are also exploring next-generation laser manufacturing and synchrotron-based real-time process observation projects. KIMM's collaboration with Fraunhofer includes shared research platforms and joint initiatives in hydrogen technology and resource recycling strategies.
