Apple Raises iPhone Prices in Japan…iPhone Air Prices Increase by 11%

Apple raised iPhone prices in Japan by up to 11% on July 17 (local time), according to IT media NineToFiveMac. The adjustment applies to the iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone Air, iPhone 17e, and some iPhone 16 models. The largest price hike is for the iPhone Air 256GB, which rose from 159,800 yen to 177,800 yen (an increase of 18,000 yen, or 11%). The iPhone 17 Pro Max 256GB saw a 10% increase to 214,800 yen from 194,800 yen, while the iPhone 17 256GB rose 10% to 142,800 yen from 129,800 yen. The iPhone 17 Pro 256GB increased 8% to 194,800 yen from 179,800 yen, and the iPhone 17e 256GB rose 8% to 107,800 yen from 99,800 yen. The iPhone 16 128GB increased 9% to 124,800 yen from 114,800 yen. Apple did not disclose the reason for the price hike, though the yen's weakness against the dollar is speculated. The yen has hit a 40-year low, reducing the dollar value of Japanese sales. Apple is likely aligning Japanese prices with other markets. Apple raised prices for multiple products last month due to rising component costs, excluding iPhones, but this separate adjustment applies only to Japan. Apple plans to provide further details on pricing in its Q3 earnings report on July 30.
