Anthropic Advances Plans to Lease Meta Data Center... Large Lease Negotiations in Early Stages

Anthropic is discussing leasing part of Meta's data center capacity. According to Silicon Angle, the potential two-year contract could reach $1 billion, but negotiations are still in early stages, leaving room for cancellation. Anthropic first proposed this lease arrangement in June, seeking a termination clause. Similar terms were included in their recent infrastructure contract with SpaceX, where they agreed to pay $1.25 billion monthly for access to the 'Coalescence 1' and 'Coalescence 2' supercomputers, with an 180-day lease term and a 90-day notice period for early termination. If the Meta deal is finalized, Anthropic could potentially increase its service capacity limits, as seen after their SpaceX contract. However, the Meta contract is estimated at $416 million monthly, about a third of the SpaceX deal, likely resulting in a smaller capacity increase. The negotiations highlight the competitive dynamics between the two companies, as Meta recently unveiled its 'Muse Spark 1.1' model optimized for programming tasks, with API fees 75% lower than Claude's.
