Jeollabuk-do Launches Initiative to Establish 'Physical AI Hub' Integrating Research, Education, Verification, and Certification
Jeollabuk Special Self-Governing Province has launched efforts to establish a 'Physical AI Hub' that integrates research, education, verification, and certification for physical AI technology, linking it to Hyundai Motor Group's investment in the Saemangeum project. The hub aims to develop R&D, education, verification, and certification for industries such as robotics, autonomous driving, and agricultural machinery. Specific projects include R&D in Jeonju and Wonsan, autonomous driving infrastructure in Gwangsan, a robot foundry and AI data center in Saemangeum, and food technology in Gyeongsan. The province is also constructing a Physical AI demonstration facility with Jeollabuk National University and KAIST to create an environment where AI can learn and verify across virtual and real-world settings, supporting the entire R&D to commercialization process. Additionally, a strategic plan for the Jeollabuk Robot Industrial Cluster, linked to Hyundai's investment, is being developed to establish a roadmap for the robot industry cluster.
