Hyundai Ioniq 5 Selling Out in the U.S.; Dealers Out of Stock, Waiting Lists Formed

Hyundai Ioniq 5 has sold out quickly in the U.S. market, with some dealers reporting depleted inventory and others operating waiting lists. Launched in 2021 as a core EV model, the Ioniq 5 received comprehensive upgrades for its 2025 U.S. launch, including enhanced battery capacity, design, and convenience features. The 2026 Ioniq 5 achieved EPA certification for a 318-mile (512 km) range and adopted the NACS charging port earlier than most non-Tesla EVs. Price reductions of up to $10,000 in September 2023, following the end of federal EV tax credits, are seen as a key driver for sales growth. The Ioniq 5 ranked third overall in U.S. EV sales for the first half of 2024, outselling Tesla in the category. Discrepancies between online inventory and dealership stock have emerged, with some consumers needing deposits due to unavailability. Waiting lists are active in Vermont and Colorado, amid rising fuel costs and demand for newer models. KBB estimates U.S. EV sales will rise 14.7% in Q2 2026, reflecting strong market momentum.
