Korean Science Prodigies Shine on the Global Stage... All Team Members Win Medals in Biology and Chemistry Olympiads

South Korea's team secured all medals in both the International Biology Olympiad and International Chemistry Olympiad. The Ministry of Science and ICT and Korea Creative Science Foundation announced that four Korean representatives won gold medals in the 2026 International Biology Olympiad. The 37th International Biology Olympiad, held in Vilnius, Lithuania, saw 302 students from 78 countries compete, with all four Korean participants earning gold. This marks the first all-gold team since 2019 and the largest participation since Korea's inaugural 1998 attendance. The biology olympiad evaluated theoretical and experimental skills, covering topics like cellular biology, genetics, and molecular biology. In the International Chemistry Olympiad, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, all Korean representatives won medals, with two golds, one silver, and one bronze. The chemistry competition featured theory and experimental exams, testing knowledge in physical chemistry and tasks like synthetic chemistry and sample analysis. Korea plans to compete in future international mathematics, information, and geoscience olympiads.
