Japan Unveils 'Human Refrigerator' Personal Cooling Unit for 40°C Heatwaves

Japan has launched a personal cooling booth resembling a beverage vending machine, designed to alleviate heat stress for outdoor workers during recurring 40°C heatwaves. The Do Hiemon Box, developed by SDRS and sold by Trusco Nakayama, measures 2029mm in height, 931mm in width, and weighs 293kg. It features wheels for mobility, requires no installation beyond a power outlet, and instantly cools interior spaces to 15°C while directing 5°C airflow to key heat dissipation areas. The unit provides energy-efficient targeted cooling, operating at approximately 145 won per hour with a 20-minute auto-shutoff feature and three adjustable fan levels.
