Suncheon Accepts Petition for Policy Discussion on Public Resource Recovery Facility... 821 Citizens Participate
Suncheon City announced on the 22nd that it has received a petition for a policy discussion on the next-generation public resource recovery facility project and sustainable resource circulation policies. The petition, initiated on the 21st to comprehensively review the project and seek social consensus through citizen and expert participation, gathered 821 valid signatures—four times the required threshold of 200. Petitioners emphasized the need to address ongoing citizen concerns following the site decision and announcement, and to establish a foundation for long-term resource circulation policies through deliberative public discourse. The city plans to conduct reviews and administrative procedures as per relevant regulations and will support holding a policy forum with citizens and experts. Mayor Son Hoon-mo stated that the citizens' voluntary participation and demands for discussion reflect a meaningful process in the era of citizen sovereignty, and that the city will listen to citizens' voices, ensure fair and substantive dialogue, and co-create the future of a sustainable resource circulation city, Suncheon.
