PLAINBIT: Attackers Still Targeting 'Management Gaps'

Despite the rise of AI and new attack methods, attackers continue exploiting management weaknesses such as exposed web administration functions, weak authentication, and unpatched vulnerabilities in actual breach incidents. Lee Hyun-jin, PLAINBIT's lead researcher, shared this insight at the 2026 First Half Cybersecurity Information Sharing Seminar. PLAINBIT analyzed 638 incidents from January to July 2025, with web-based attacks being most common (127 cases), followed by server hacking (97), ransomware (53), and malicious emails/malware infections (29). The firm reconstructed attack sequences from initial infiltration to final damage using digital forensic analysis of logs, files, and system records.
