Ministry of Science and ICT Shares 'Physical AI' and 'AI Highways' Strategies at APEC
The South Korean government shared its AI transition strategy at the 2026 APEC Digital and AI Ministerial Meeting in Chengdu, where APEC member economy representatives discussed AI-driven economic growth, digital connectivity, inclusion, and safe digital environments. A ministerial declaration was adopted outlining collaboration frameworks to accelerate digital transformation and inclusive growth through digital technologies. Second Deputy Minister Ryu Je-kyung emphasized how AI is driving a 'production revolution' across industries, highlighting Korea's focus on physical AI integration in manufacturing, agriculture, logistics, mobility, and care sectors. The ministry also outlined plans to expand physical AI demonstrations, build sustainable innovation ecosystems, and lead APEC's AI initiatives as the 2025 chair. A global AI hub concept involving international organizations, development banks, and private sectors was introduced to strengthen partner nations' AI capabilities and promote inclusive growth.
