AMD Commences Mass Production of AI Server Rack 'Helios' Targeting NVIDIA

AMD has begun mass production of its AI data center server rack 'Helios,' designed to directly compete with NVIDIA's top-tier rack product. The Helios system integrates 72 MI455X accelerators and EPIC servers' CPUs in a single rack, matching NVIDIA's NVL72 configuration. AMD's CEO Lisa Su highlighted the MI455X as the most powerful GPU in the market, citing 432GB of HBM4 memory, 23.3TB/s data transfer speed, and 320 billion transistors per unit. The rack delivers up to 2.9 exaflops of FP4 performance, 31TB of HBM4 memory, and 1.7PB/s memory bandwidth. AMD claims Helios offers 15% higher computational performance, 50% more HBM capacity, and 30% higher token throughput per dollar compared to NVIDIA's Verge. The company also announced a partnership with Serria to integrate its inference chips into AMD's data center products.
