OpenAI Meets Samsung and SK Following President Yoon: Expanding South Korea's AI Collaboration

OpenAI strengthened strategic cooperation with the South Korean government and Samsung Group, SK Group, covering AI infrastructure and industrial transformation. CEO Sam Altman met with President Yoon Suk Yeol and attended the San Francisco AI Summit, discussing South Korea's AI vision and long-term collaboration. Altman also met with SK Group Chairman Choi Taewon to explore collaboration on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and DRAM for AI infrastructure, as well as SK's AI transition. Altman is set to meet Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong to discuss AI infrastructure collaboration, including HBM, DRAM, and advanced foundry technologies. This follows OpenAI's expansion of its partnership framework established in October 2023 with South Korea's government and companies, including a MOU with the Ministry of Science and ICT. The partnership now includes domestic firms and universities, with Samsung adopting ChatGPT and Codex for its workforce, Seoul National University providing ChatGPT Edu to its community, and public sector entities like Korea Electric Power Corporation and Korea Water Resources Corporation advancing AI initiatives. OpenAI also announced the 'Korea Cyber Action Plan' to enhance cybersecurity capabilities through its D-Break initiative and collaboration with the AI Safety Institute.
