Facebook Considers Introducing a TikTok-Like Interface with Instant Video Playback
Facebook is set to test a new interface that displays full-screen videos immediately upon opening the app, targeting some users by the end of the year. The move aims to counter user migration to competitive social platforms like TikTok. Meta has not disclosed specific examples of the new interface, but initially plans to roll it out in markets with high video content preferences, with potential expansion to the U.S. in 2024. The company argues video is becoming central to conversation, community building, and commerce, though its overall service users decreased by 20 million in Q1 2026. While Facebook remains the world's most popular social platform, YouTube and TikTok are rapidly closing the gap, with TikTok surpassing 1 billion monthly users within three years of its launch.
