Verus-Ethereum Bridge, Another Hack in Two Months... 7.54 Million Dollars in Assets Stolen

The Verus-Ethereum bridge was hacked again within two months, with attackers exploiting the same vulnerability as the May breach to steal approximately 7.54 million dollars worth of cryptocurrencies. Blockaid reported the attackers exploited the bridge's pathway to facilitate an Ethereum-side payout without collateral, siphoning ETH, tBTC, USDC, USDT, EURC, MKR, and scrvUSD before converting the stolen assets to ETH. Security firm CertiK estimated the loss at around 7.53 million dollars, noting the funds were swapped into 3,916.1 ETH and deposited into Tornado Cash. Blockaid linked the attack to the May breach, citing identical bridge contracts, entry points, and vulnerability types, though the perpetrators appear to be a different individual using a newly created wallet.
