Oracle Unveils Small Database Equipment for Branch Offices and Remote Sites

Oracle introduced on-premises equipment called 'Base Database Cloud@Customer' designed to operate its database in branch offices, remote sites, and small business units. This product targets smaller-scale deployment needs compared to the larger Exadata Cloud@Customer X11M. The new equipment is designed as an 8U, 14-inch modular form factor that fits in server racks, containing two AMD 5th-gen EPYC chip-based servers with 60 available CPU cores and 660GB memory. It features 11.6TB of flash storage with optional SSD expansion up to 47.2TB, supporting triple mirroring by replicating data across three SSDs. High availability and disaster recovery capabilities are included, allowing database instances to run across dual servers with 'Active Data Guard' updating read-only replicas and scanning for ransomware threats before synchronizing backups. The system also supports AI agents and other workloads, enabling reduced latency and simplified maintenance in applications like prompt-response databases.
