Ministry of Science and ICT Launches Full-Scale Operations of Public Nano Fab Center... R&D Core Hub Development
The South Korean government is advancing the Nano-Technology Research Institute and the Korea Nano Technology Institute as core hubs for nano R&D innovation. It aims to expand industry-academia-research collaboration frameworks for R&D, technology validation, and commercialization. The Public Nano Fab Center, established in May, received official designation through a joint government-industry forum, with officials and institute directors participating. Nano-tech underpins strategic sectors like semiconductors, AI, and batteries, making facility access and utilization critical for national competitiveness. Legal reforms in August 2023 enabled public designation of nano-fab operators, with financial support and shared asset usage privileges. The centers will now provide R&D support, technology validation, and commercialization links, while enhancing integrated infrastructure through a unified information system.
