BYD Pledges Full Compensation for Urban Autonomous Driving Accidents…Driving 20 Million Kilometers Per Day
[ZDNet Korea] BYD announced during a recent technology briefing that it will guarantee urban autonomous driving safety for one year, expanding its previous intelligent parking safety guarantee. With parking-related accident rates approaching zero, BYD became the first company to claim urban autonomous driving safety responsibility guarantees. Starting from the 29th under Chinese regulations, consumers receiving new cars equipped with the 'God's Eye A' and 'God's Eye B' driving assistance systems, as well as existing vehicles upgraded to the 'God's Eye 5.0' version, will be covered by this guarantee. In the event of a traffic accident not caused by the driver, BYD will fully compensate for all direct economic losses without any cap, and the guarantee will not be affected by potential insurance rate hikes in 2024. Additionally, BYD introduced the optional 'God's Eye B' package, which includes LiDAR, priced at approximately 260 million won. The company plans to continue investing over 12 trillion won in R&D. The camera-based 'God's Eye C' is also set for a functional upgrade with an OTA update in December. BYD's autonomous driving vehicles have surpassed 3.15 million units, generating over 20 million kilometers of daily driving data. The company employs over 5,000 engineers in autonomous driving, making it the largest development team in China. The newly unveiled BYD super AI agent 'DidiSha' is integrated into the 'Dilink AI Smart Cockpit,' supporting natural conversation, vehicle control, and entertainment. A personalized digital avatar is also embedded in vehicles to provide adaptive services. To prepare for the future autonomous driving era, BYD plans to launch the 'God's Eye Autonomous Driving Edition (L3·L4)' featuring a 1000-line high-resolution LiDAR, snapshot camera, and dual infrared camera. The company also unveiled the 'Shanzhi A3' chip, the first 4nm process-based autonomous driving chip in China. BYD emphasized that in the era of intelligence, the 'chip' will be the key to competition, following the battery battle in the electrification era.
