GM, Will It Shake Up the Battery Market... Targeting the Power Grid Market with Sodium-Ion

GM is entering the fixed energy storage market for power grids and data centers by producing sodium-ion battery cells. According to TechRadar, GM has partnered with energy storage company Peak Energy to manufacture sodium-ion battery cells for fixed storage systems used by power companies, data centers, and large energy consumers. Peak Energy plans to integrate GM's cells into its storage systems for supply to power companies and large energy users. This collaboration reflects GM's strategic shift from vehicle batteries to fixed energy storage. GM and Peak Energy believe sodium-ion batteries can operate across a broader temperature range than lithium-ion batteries, potentially eliminating costly cooling infrastructure for large-scale lithium-ion storage systems.
