TS Unveils World's First Autonomous Vehicle Evaluation System 'KADAS'
The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS), led by President Jeong Yong-sik, announced on June 21 that it has built and will begin operating the world's first autonomous vehicle evaluation system, KADAS, at an automobile inspection facility. KADAS, designed to assess the safety of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and support the commercialization of autonomous vehicles, enables comprehensive testing of five key ADAS technologies—adaptive cruise control (ACC), emergency automatic braking (AEBS), lane-keeping assistance (LKAS), lane departure warning (LDWS), and forward collision warning (FCWS)—in a single inspection lane. The system also simulates virtual driving environments using real-time monitoring and radar target simulators (RTS) without relying on vehicle electronic control units (ECUs). During the event, a demonstration showcased how autonomous vehicles can autonomously brake and steer based on simulated traffic scenarios. TS President Jeong emphasized that KADAS will serve as a critical safety net for citizens using future mobility solutions like autonomous vehicles, and the organization pledged to lead innovation in advanced vehicle inspection standards. Key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and industry partners, attended the event to witness KADAS's cutting-edge technology.
